Key Events for 2006
- The Flight Anomaly Review Board determined that the anomaly of UP Aerospace's SL-1 rocket was caused by the loss of aerodynamic stability at Mach 3.7, 5.25 seconds into flight. Lonnie Sumpter stated the proper corrective action has been identified.
- Sumpter reported the Environmental Impact Study kick-off meeting was held November 20, 2006.
- Sumpter stated a meeting would be held on December 12, 2006 with the New Mexico Spaceport Authority, Bureau of Land Management, National Parks Service, Federal Aviation Administration, and the New Mexico State Historic Preservation Officer to discuss ways to mitigate potential impacts and enhance the profile of the Camino Real.
- The Authority considered forming a Community Advisory Committee to hold quarterly meetings communicating local views to the Authority with regard to Spaceport America. Lonnie Sumpter, Jim Hayhoe, and Richard Holdridge agreed to complete a formal proposal and mission statement.
- Chairman Homans stated that DMJM has been working very closely with Virgin Galactic on the architecture of the site. The results of a three-day charette will be presented at the next meeting.
- Members voted to accept a Request for Proposal for legal services.
- Chairman Homans stated that before the New Mexico Legislature this session will be the GRIP II fund, which includes transportation construction related to Spaceport America.
- Chairman Homans stated that enabling legislation for the proposed gross receipts tax will also be before the Legislature this session.
- Finally, Chairman Homans announced that discussions are already underway for the 2007 X Prize Cup.
